Emil Frey Enters GT Masters Alongside Endurance Cup

Emil Frey Racing will enter ADAC GT Masters for the first time this year alongside its continuing Fanatec GT World Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup program with Lamborghini.

The Swiss team has announced plans to run three Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evos in each championship with Squadra Corse factory drivers involved in the setup.

Emil Frey Racing’s program in the German GT Masters series effectively replaces its GTWC Europe Sprint Cup effort that ran last year.

Mirko Bortolotti, Jack Aitken and Albert Costa will drive the No. 63 Lamborghini in GTWC Europe Endurance Cup, while Aitken and Costa will team up in GT Masters as Bortolotti tackles a DTM program with Grasser Racing Team.

The No. 19 Emil Frey Lamborghini will be shared by Leo Roussel, Arthur Rougier and factory driver Giacomo Altoe in the Pro class of Endurance Cup, with Franck Perera coming in as Rougier’s driving partner for the GT Masters campaign.

Emil Frey Racing’s No. 14 car will continue to run in the Silver Cup class of GTWC Europe.

Konsta Lappalainen, who teamed up with Aitken and Rougier in Pro last season, is confirmed in the Silver car with Stuart White. Their third co-driver is yet to be named.

Lappalainen will also compete in GT Masters alongside Mick Wishofer, who has previously driven Mercedes-AMG and Porsche machinery in the series.

Emil Frey Racing is expected to be Lamborghini’s only Pro-class entrant in GTWC Europe Endurance Cup this year.

Its headlining No. 63 entry brings together two drivers from two of the team’s Pro cars last season, while Bortolotti represented FFF which has taken a sabbatical from the GT3 class. The No. 63 plate was also used by FFF for its Pro Lamborghini entry in 2021.

Emil Frey won all three of the available GTWC Europe Silver Cup class titles last season and finished third in the overall combined team’s standings.

The organization also encountered some challenging moments, including a major accident at the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa that caused Aitken to miss a handful of events through injury and forced two Lamborghini chassis to be written off and replaced.

“With third place overall, the past season was successful for us, although we were not able to deliver our performance everywhere as planned,” said team principal Lorenz Frey-Hilti.

“During the winter break, we analyzed the numerous data and experiences we gathered. With the measures we have taken, we hope to finish the 2022 season even better.

“Competing in two different racing series at the same time is an additional challenge for us as a team.

“We thank Lamborghini and our partners for the trust they have placed in us and start the new season highly motivated.

“This year’s driver squad is made up of long-time Emil Frey Racing drivers, Lamborghini factory drivers and newcomers. I am pleased that we can once again count on a strong driver lineup for all three cars.

“I am convinced that we have a strong team and that we have set the course for a successful season.”
