Goodyear Selected as Tire Supplier for New LMGT3 Class

Goodyear has been selected as the exclusive tire supplier for the LMGT3 class that will replace GTE-Am in the FIA World Endurance Championship starting next season.

The FIA on Thursday announced that the American company, which bases its sports car operations in Europe, has won a tender process to supply WEC’s new production-based category for GT3 cars on a three-year deal beginning in 2024.

Goodyear is currently the championship’s exclusive LMP2 tire partner and also provides tires to LMP2 and GTE teams in the European Le Mans Series.

Michelin supplies the WEC’s outgoing GTE-Am category and the top Hypercar division.

“Tires are one of the key areas which will evolve over the next couple of years,” said FIA Endurance Commission President Richard Mille.

“We have already moved away from tire heating and we will be gradually reducing the number of available tire compounds, therefore having an experienced partner that already knows both the FIA World Endurance Championship as well as GT3 racing is an asset.

“The fact that LMGT3 cars will run on commercially-available, off-the-shelf tires is also a positive development that will bring down the costs for competitors.”

Technical details of the Goodyear LMGT3 tire have not been released yet.

Supplying the LMGT3 class will mark a significant increase in Goodyear’s GT3 activity, which currently consists of working with a select number of SP9 teams at the Nürburgring 24 and NLS races.

Goodyear’s role in the WEC LMGT3 class was approved by members of the FIA World Motor Sport Council by electronic vote this week.

No word has been made on the supply of tires to GT3 cars in the ELMS and Asian LMS, which are also managed by WEC co-organizer the ACO.
