Lamborghini Pauses Hypercar, LMGT3 Efforts After One Season

Lamborghini has confirmed that it has “paused” both its Hypercar and LMGT3 efforts in the FIA World Endurance Championship, pulling its entries after a single year of competition in the series.

The Italian brand’s departure from the championship was effectively confirmed on Friday when it did not appear on the 36-car provisional full-season entry list for the 2025 season.

In a separately released statement, the brand states that WEC’s decision to mandate a two-car effort for Hypercar manufacturer ‘no longer aligns with its strategy,’ citing it as a key reason for its exit.

At the same time, it reiterated its commitments to its SC63 LMDh program by stating it will continue to race the car in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

“Competing at the highest level is an honour for Lamborghini Squadra Corse and remains an ambition for the years to come,” the brand wrote.

“The change in the FIA WEC sporting regulations which now also mandates brands to field two cars in the Hypercar class from 2025 also changes the terms on which Lamborghini entered the championship this year and is no longer aligned with the company’s strategy.

“Lamborghini has therefore evaluated its options and elected to sit out the 2025 FIA WEC while remaining committed to the SC63 development by continuing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the United States.

“The pause in the FIA WEC programme also allows Lamborghini Squadra Corse to focus efforts on the development of the new Temerario GT3 throughout the year, with the former set to be formally unveiled after completing outdoor testing during 2025.

“Lamborghini Squadra Corse would like to express its thanks to both the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the FIA for the opportunity to compete in the golden age for sportscar racing and for their support throughout the 2024 season.”

Meanwhile, its former partner team Iron Lynx confirmed on Wednesday that it will switch brands and align itself with Mercedes-AMG next year.

Lamborghini’s single-car Hypercar entry scored eleven points across its eight-round debut campaign, securing a top-ten finish on debut in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Mirko Bortolotti, Daniil Kvyat and Edoardo Mortara.

Its LMGT3 effort, meanwhile, scored a best finish of third place in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps with Claudio Schiavoni, Matteo Cressoni and Franck Perera.
