Meyer Shank Racing ended the opening day of the IMSA-sanctioned test at Daytona International Speedway on top, with the No. 93 Acura ARX-06 of Renger van der Zande quickest in the second session of the day.
The Dutchman reeled off a chart-topping 1:36.142 lap in the car that also led the way in the opening session, courtesy of Nick Yelloly’s 1:35.725 that stood as the quickest time of the day.
Van der Zande’s time was a mere 0.001 seconds quicker than Julien Andlauer’s No. 6 Penske Porsche 963, which ended up second quickest in the afternoon running.
The No. 85 JDC-Miller Motorsports Porsche, running to this year’s specification, continued to show impressive form with Nico Pino setting the third quickest time, while the No. 60 MSR Acura and No. 7 Penske Porsche completed the top-five in GTP with Tom Blomqvist and Matt Campbell at the wheel, respectively.
LMP2 was led by the No. 11 TDS Racing Oreca 07 Gibson of Charles Milesi, thanks to a 1:39.176 lap time that was quicker than Tom Dillmann’s benchmark time set in the opening session in the No. 43 Inter Europol Competition entry.
The No. 04 CrowdStrike Racing by APR and No. 73 Pratt Miller Motorsports Orecas completed the top-three in class.
The session’s first red flag came with just over 30 minutes to go when Misha Goikhberg’s No. 52 Bryan Herta Autosport with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca made impact with the Turn 5 barriers.
The newly re-classified Bronze-rated driver brought the car back to the pits under its own power.
It was quickly followed by another red for the No. 37 Intersport Racing Oreca of Jon Field, who went off in Turn 2 but continued.
Three test sessions are on tap for Saturday, featuring all four classes, running from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1:30-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. (all times ET).
