Estre Penalized, On Probation After Road America Incident

IMSA has penalized the No. 6 Penske Porsche 963 of Kevin Estre while placing the Frenchman on a two-race probation for “unjustifiable risk” following an incident with Jack Aitken in the closing stages of last weekend’s Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix at Road America.

Announced late on Friday, it comes following a “comprehensive review” by officials of the clash between the two drivers that ultimately led to the six-hour Michelin Endurance Cup race ending under full-course caution.

Estre has been given a post-race time penalty equivalent to a five-minute stop-and-hold for incident responsibility, while also placed on probation for the final two GTP races of the season.

Per a statement released by IMSA, further penalties for Estre may lead to suspension.

The No. 6 Porsche has dropped from eighth to tenth in the revised provisional results as a result and crucially has placed the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac V-Series.R of Aitken in eighth place, up one position in the results.

This means the gap between Aitken and second-placed Laurin Heinrich in the GTP championship standings has been slightly increased from 108 to 118 points heading into the penultimate GTP round of the season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway next month.
