Verstappen: 24H Spa An “Exciting Option” for 2027

Four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen has said he will “probably” tackle next year’s CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa and described it as an “exciting option” but has ruled out a 24 Hours of Le Mans bid for now.

Verstappen has shown an increased interest in sports car racing in recent years and took part in the Nürburgring 24 earlier this year, looking on course for victory before the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo he was sharing with Dani Juncadella, Jules Gounon and Lucas Auer suffered driveshaft woe with fewer than four hours remaining.

At the time Verstappen made it clear he wanted to have another crack at the Nordschleife contest but speaking to reporters ahead of this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, he confirmed the 24H Spa was also on his radar.

“I said already after the race on the Nordschleife that I wanted to go back,” Verstappen said in Baku.

“So, if it allows me to prepare well and it all works out well, (I will do it).

“I know there is no clash, but it still needs to work out in my schedule, and then I’ll do it. And Spa is an exciting option to do it.”

SRO Motorsports Group, which organizes the 24H Spa, confirmed on Tuesday that the race will take place on June 26-27 as originally intended.

It had previously said it was open to moving the date in order to avoid any clashes with F1 race weekends.

However, with the 2027 F1 calendar being unveiled last week, there are no direct clashes with either the 24H Spa or N24, giving the opportunity for Verstappen to contest both.

He had also previously been linked with a possible Ford Hypercar seat for the 24 Hours of Le Mans now that his Red Bull F1 squad uses powertrains designed with input from the Blue Oval.

But Verstappen has ruled out any Le Mans attack next year, despite it also not clashing with a F1 weekend in 2027.

When asked about racing at La Sarthe, he replied: “That’s not on my list for now.”
