BMW has announced the departure of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship regular Philipp Eng from its roster of works drivers at the end of the year.

Eng, 36, has been a stalwart of the BMW stable since 2016, representing the Bavarian marque in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the DTM and various GT3-based championships in his 11 years with the brand.

In 2023, he became a full-time member of BMW’s GTP program in the WeatherTech Championship, having been part of its Michelin Endurance Cup efforts since 2018, including a victory in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2019 at the wheel of an M8 GTE alongside Augusto Farfus, Connor De Phillippi and Colton Herta.

Since then, Eng has scored two wins for the brand, the first at Indianapolis in 2024 and the second last year at Road America.

He and full-time co-driver Marco Wittmann scored podiums at Laguna Seca and Detroit this year as they concluded the year 13th in the GTP drivers’ standings.

Outside of North America, Eng became a three-time winner of the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa in BMW machinery, in 2016, ’18 and ’23, and also notched up a Nürburgring 24 success in 2020.

A BMW statement said Eng would be taking on “new challenges” from next season.

“I would like to extend my warmest thanks to Philipp Eng for eleven successful years together at BMW M Motorsport,” said BMW motorsport boss Andreas Roos.

“Through his numerous major victories in GT racing, Philipp has established himself as one of the world’s top drivers in this category.

“At the same time, from 2023 onwards, he has regularly demonstrated his class at the wheel of the BMW M Hybrid V8. In the IMSA series, he was a key component over four seasons in our development into a top team that can now consistently compete for victories and podium places.

“I wish Philipp all the best for the next stage of his career and look forward to seeing him again soon at the racetrack.”

Eng, who was previously associated with BMW in his junior single-seater career, added: “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported me during my eleven years at BMW M Motorsport. It has been a fantastic time!

“Over the years, I’ve made many friends, and I’m very grateful for that. I’m delighted to have won races in every series I’ve competed in – be it the DTM, the IMSA Series, the GT World Challenge or the Intercontinental GT Challenge.

“Particular highlights were, of course, my three victories at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and my success at the 24 Hours of Daytona.

“Now it is time for me to turn my attention to new and exciting challenges. I wish BMW M Motorsport all the best for the future! I will always cherish the memories of our time together.”
