Vanthoor Tops Practice 2 at Bathurst

Laurens Vanthoor topped the time charts in the second of Friday’s practice sessions for this weekend’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

The Belgian recorded a best time of 2:04.987 in his No. 15 Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra late in the 60-minute session, outpacing the No. 35 NISMO Athlete Global Team Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 by 0.400 seconds.

Toni Vilander also made a late improvement to put his No. 33 Clearwater Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 third overall on the time sheets and second quickest in the Pro-Am class, while the No. 10 M-Sport Bentley Continental GT3 was fourth.

The No. 36 Erebus Motorsport Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 made it five different manufacturer in the top-five overall.

Unlike this morning’s incident-filled session, the second practice only saw a single red flag, for the Class B Pelorus/Wall Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car of Matt Kingsley, which had an accident on the mountain.

Friday’s third practice session gets underway at 1:35 p.m. local.
