Rennsport Date Changes; Porsche GT3 USA Finale Moved Forward

Porsche Rennsport Reunion V at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has been moved forward two weeks from its original October 9-11 date to September 25-27, Porsche has announced.

The date switch comes as a result of a conflict on the October weekend, when the FIA World Endurance Championship will be in Japan for the Six Hours of Fuji.

“We felt it would be in the best interest for all parties to take this unusual step and move the date,” said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.

“By moving Rennsport Reunion V ahead two weeks, we ensure that our current 919 Hybrid LMP1 and 911 RSR race teams, and more importantly, our new generation of racing heroes can join our racing legends and be part of the festivities among our many fans.”

The Rennsport date change also moves forward the season finale for the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama.

That season finale will now occur a week after the Circuit of the Americas round, Sept. 18-19.

“It seems only appropriate that we have the pinnacle of the Porsche one-make series in North America compete on the weekend of the largest Porsche gathering in the world,” said Jens Walther, President and CEO, Porsche Motorsport North America.

“We simply could not plan a better stage on which to crown the 2015 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama champions. This will be a spectacular event for not only the teams taking part in the championship finale, but for all of the vintage racers and attendees of Rennsport Reunion V, as well.”

Added Randy Hembrey, senior series manager, Development and Single-Make Series for IMSA, “The race for the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Platinum Cup championship came down to the final event of the season among four talented drivers in 2014, and we expect similar excitement this season at Rennsport.”
