Caterham Withdraws ELMS, LM24 Entries

Caterham will not be on the grid in the European Le Mans Series as originally planned, after its LMP2 entry was not granted a guaranteed entry for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

According to a report from Autosport, the British manufacturer has pulled out of the program, which would have seen a joint effort with Greaves Motorsport in the five-round European championship.

The team’s Zytek Z11SN Nissan was listed as the third reserve for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with Chris Dyson as the nominated driver.

“After making its Le Mans 24 Hours debut in 2013, Caterham had considered campaigning in the famous race again,” a statement from Caterham supplied to Autosport read.

“However, after securing only a reserve slot on the Le Mans 24 Hours grid and with many other important engineering programs already underway, the decision was taken to withdraw.”

Caterham and Greaves joined forces for a single-car entry at Le Mans last year for drivers Tom Kimber-Smith, Eric Lux and Caterham F1 reserve driver Alexander Rossi.

According to Caterham, its Le Mans entries would remain under the banner of Greaves Motorsport, with the Tim and Jacob Greaves-run squad still hoping to run two cars in the ELMS.

Dyson, meanwhile, has been moved to the confirmed Greaves  entry for the ELMS and at Le Mans, alongside nominated driver Kimber-Smith.

The team’s third driver for the No. 41 car has yet to be announced.
