Lance Stroll is set for his LMP2 debut, having been confirmed in Jackie Chan DCR JOTA’s lineup for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
As predicted by Sportscar365 last week, the Williams F1 driver will join Felix Rosenqvist, Robin Frijns and Daniel Juncadella at the wheel of one of the team’s Oreca 07 Gibson entries in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener.
It will mark the 19-year-old Canadian’s second Rolex 24 start, after finishing fifth overall in his debut in 2016, in a Riley-Ford DP for Chip Ganassi Racing.
“We are going to Daytona to enjoy, compete and of course try and win,” Stroll said. “I always want to be best and most competitive I can be.
“I’ll be out there with some of my buddies in the same car and it is going to be a pleasure to do this race again as I just love to race.
“We are the four young guns so it will be great fun I’m sure because we go way back together. A big part of Daytona is who you share the car with so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Stroll’s signing is the latest high-profile addition to the race, which includes two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso driving for United Autosports.
The lineup for DCR JOTA’s second Oreca will be announced shortly.
“I’m delighted to welcome Lance, Felix, Robin and Daniel into our team,” said team co-owner David Cheng.
“Their speed and calibre is well known, as well as their past experiences with sports car and endurance racing.
“With this year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona being the most competitive I’ve seen in decades, the addition of this fantastic lineup will help us ensure the best odds to pursue the top step of another famous 24 hour podium.”
