Riley Confirmed as First LMP3 Entry With Murry, Cox

Dylan Murry and Jim Cox will step up to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship next year, with Riley Motorsports confirming the first LMP3 entry in the series.

Announced on Wednesday, LMP3 machinery will be added to the WeatherTech Championship as a fifth class in 2021.

Murry, a previous race-winner in IMSA Prototype Challenge competition, will pilot a brand-new Ligier JS P320 Nissan with Cox in the seven-race program that kicks off at January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The duo have spent the past two seasons in Michelin Pilot Challenge in a Riley-run Mercedes-AMG GT4, scoring wins in the four-hour enduros at Daytona International Speedway and Watkins Glen International, as well as the Michelin IMSA SportsCar Encore at Sebring last year.

“I’m incredibly excited to release this news,” said Murry, the son of former sports car champion David Murry. “This truly is a great opportunity.

“[Riley] is a top-notch, professional organization. Clearly, they are as good as you can get. Every time, we get unbelievably fast race cars.”

Riley’s entire Pilot Challenge crew will move operations to the LMP3 program, with the team in discussions for a potential second Ligier entry as well for the season.

“I’m looking forward to another solid season with Jim and Dylan,” said Riley. “Being in WeatherTech with a Ligier LMP3 will make it even more exciting.”

Cox added: “The LMP3 is a great car that is very suitable for endurance racing.

“We are excited by IMSA’s decision to add this platform as an alternative for participation in its premier WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

“With the support of Riley Motorsports, we are confident we will have a competitive program.”
