The two cars that missed the most recent IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races have been given Balance of Performance breaks ahead of this weekend’s GT-only round at the Charlotte Roval.
Issued in the latest IMSA technical bulletin, the Porsche 911 RSR-19 will run with a 15 kg reduction in minimum wright, while the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 will have roughly a 6.7 horsepower increase amongst the competitors in GT Daytona.
The power increase for the Ferrari comes with a 5 kg increase in minimum weight and 1-liter increase in fuel capacity.
Both factory Porsches missed last month’s Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio after three of its four drivers were quarantined following several positive COVID-19 tests within the Porsche camp at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
There had been initial questions whether the CORE autosport-run team would complete the remainder of the season.
The No. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari — the only prancing horse in GTD — also sat out the last round as Cooper MacNeil focused on Ferrari Challenge North America that weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. It is also set to miss this weekend’s Roval round, despite the BoP boost.
The GTLM class Porsche and GTD Ferrari the only cars to have received BoP changes made for Saturday’s 100-minute race.
