Magnussen Father-Son Duo Team Up in High Class Oreca

Kevin Magnussen will make his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut racing alongside his father Jan at High Class Racing, which announced one of its LMP2 driver lineups on Friday.

The Magnussen father-son duo will share the No. 49 High Class Racing Oreca 07 Gibson with Anders Fjordbach, creating an all-Danish driver lineup for the race on Aug. 21-22.

It will mark the first time that Jan Magnussen, a quadruple Le Mans class winner with Corvette Racing, and his son Kevin have shared a car in their professional racing careers.

Magnussen Jr. switched to sports cars at the start of 2021 after six full seasons in Formula 1 seasons including stints at McLaren, Renault and Haas.

The 28-year-old is currently driving a Dallara LMP2-based Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

He has also previously tested a Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 and will represent Peugeot in the WEC’s Hypercar class next year, but has never competed in the LMP2 class.

Magnussen Sr. and Fjordbach are co-drivers in this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship with High Class, sharing the No. 20 Oreca with Bronze driver Dennis Andersen.

Their switch to the No. 49 entry, which is one of two High Class Racing Orecas set for Le Mans, takes them from the Pro-Am sub category to the LMP2 overall classification.
