AmDTuning Switches to Mercedes for 2017

AmDTuning has announced plans to run a Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the British GT Championship next season, replacing its BMW Z4 GT3.

This marks the second Mercedes-AMG GT3 to be confirmed for full-season British GT competition in 2017, following Team ABBA with Rollcentre Racing’s announcement on Tuesday.

“We enjoyed our first season in GT3 last year and the plan was always to make the move to a new car for 2017,” commented team boss Shaun Hollamby.

“We are delighted that we will be running the Mercedes-AMG GT3 next year as the car is already a proven winner, and one that we are confident is the right car to carry us to success.

“Certainly we feel we have unfinished business in the British GT Championship and there is no doubt that we want to be challenging for race wins and the title with the new car.

“We could, and arguably should, have won races last year despite the fact that the BMW was one of the oldest cars on the grid and we want to put that right with the Mercedes.”

The driver lineup for this program is yet to be announced, although it is expected not to include 2016 drivers Lee Mowle and Joe Osborne, who will find themselves busy elsewhere.

“There has been a lot of interest in the drives we have available, including one pairing who are proven winners in the series, and we should be in a position to announce drivers in the near future ahead of our pre-season testing program,” continued Hollamby.

The Essex-based squad also announced a Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup campaign with a similar Mercedes to be driven by Mowle and 2016 British GT GT3 runner-up Phil Keen.
