The DeltaWing coupe sports a special commemorative livery for Petit Le Mans this week, celebrating each of the P1 champions through the 15-year history of the American Le Mans Series and expressing the team’s appreciation for the series and its loyal fans.

DeltaWing Racing Cars Manager Partner Dr. Don Panoz founded the ALMS in 1998 and built it into one of the premier sports car racing series in the world.

Panoz sold the series last year as the first step in merging the ALMS and Grand-Am series into the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, which debuts next year.

To commemorate this final ALMS event, the DeltaWing coupe carries a unique design graphic showing all 15 ALMS P1 prototype champions. The design was created by Andy Blackmore, who produces the exceptional spotter guides used by racing series around the world.

The design was truly a collaborative effort among the entire DeltaWing team, with the team mechanics working with management to create the unique design. Team manager David Price explains.

“The team wanted to create a special livery for this race,” said Price. “Because this is the last race for the ALMS, we wanted to commemorate what’s happened through the years, so e decided to show all the P1 champions.

“One of the tag lines on the race poster is “Au Revoir, ALMS” so we incorporated that as well, across the top of the wind screen of the coupe. We showed it to Don and he added a thank you to the fans and to ALMS for 15 wonderful seasons.

“Don started the ALMS and it’s appropriate that he has a car in this last race, so he finishes what he started, as it were. Everyone on the team contributed to this, it really was a group effort.

“Andy Blackmore did the artwork and Allen Lopez, our graphics guy, put it on. We didn’t want to actually change the livery, but adding to it for this race is quite fitting.”
