Yet another IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTP star has been confirmed for the LMP2 headline Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, with Filipe Albuquerque to sub for the FIA World Endurance Championship-bound Paul di Resta in the No. 22 United Autosports Oreca 07 Gibson.

The longtime United driver, who races full-time for Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti in the GTP class, will join full season driver Daniel Goldberg at the wheel of the No. 22 Oreca for the two-hour and 40-minute race.

Albuquerque becomes the fourth GTP driver that’s set to move into the LMP2 ranks for the race, joining WTRAndretti co-driver Louis Deletaz (AO Racing), Renger van der Zande (Tower Motorsports) and Pipo Derani (AF Corse).

LMP2 will be joined by GTD Pro and GTD competitors for the WeatherTech Championship’s trip North of the Border this year.

“I am really looking forward to race in Mosport with United,” said Albuquerque. “We will be racing for the overall victory.

“I had the chance to meet Daniel already and we had a great feeling. On top of that, I got a nice warm up at Le Mans to get back into the LMP2. We want to fight for the win for sure.”

United Autosports CEO Richard Dean added: “It’s always a pleasure to race with Filipe, so with Paul fulfilling his commitments with Peugeot in the WEC, it was an easy choice.

“Filipe is super quick, reliable and a fantastic mentor for other drivers… I’m sure Daniel will learn a lot from him in Canada.

“Sadly, the 24 Hours of Le Mans didn’t go to plan for Filipe and the United Autosports  No. 23 LMP2 crew this year, so this is our opportunity to celebrate victory together in 2024.”
