Giacomo Altoe and Seb Priaulx ended the second IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship practice session at Virginia International Raceway in a dead heat, with both drivers setting the exact same lap time.
Altoe, in Friday’s pace-setting No. 81 DragonSpeed Ferrari 296 GT3, as well as the No. 64 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang GT3 of Priaulx set identical 1:45.011 lap times.
The Italian driver was officially classified in first by virtue of setting the lap before Priaulx.
The pair of Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs were third and fourth in the final session prior to qualifying for the Michelin GT Challenge, in the hands of Nicky Catsburg and Antonio Garcia, respectively.
The third-placed No. 4 Corvette, however, had late-session drama when Tommy Milner pulled off track with smoke coming from the exhaust in the final 15 minutes of the session.
The No. 021 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari of Onofrio Triarsi, meanwhile, topped the GTD class, thanks to a 1:45.324 lap time.
Triarsi’s class pace-setting time was 0.127 seconds quicker than the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 of Jack Hawksworth, with Danny Formal third quickest in class in the No. 45 Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2.
Russell Ward, who topped the GTD time charts on Friday, completed the top-five in the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
The 90-minute session, the final practice prior to qualifying for Sunday’s two-hour and 40-minute contest, ran without any red flags.
The No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus returned to action after reported electrical issues on Friday, according to IMSA Radio, although the No. 78 Forte Racing Lamborghini went to the garage in this morning’s session due to a fuel pump issue but returned late in the session.
Qualifying is set for a 4:55 p.m. EST start this afternoon, with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA’s YouTube channel.
