Seth Lucas will join the newly re-branded Korthoff Competition Motors effort in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, with Kenton Koch promoted to a full-season drive in the team’s Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
Lucas, 18, contested a season of LMP2 competition with the joint MDK-High Class Racing effort and will move to the GTD ranks next year.
Notably absent is Mercedes-AMG factory driver Mikael Grenier, who took part in a season-long campaign with the team this season. Fellow factory ace, Maxi Goetz, however, will team up with Koch and Lucas for the Michelin Endurance Cup races in 2025.
The Ohio-based team, meanwhile, has undergone its third re-branding in its four-year WeatherTech Championship history, having joined forces with Competition Motors, a company that Chris Lucas, the father of Seth, serves as chairman.
“We are excited for the return of Kenton Koch and the introduction of our newest driver Seth Lucas as our dynamic young stars,” said team owner Herb Korthoff.
“Their talent and energy will be complemented by the wisdom and experience of Max Goetz. This combination gives us a strong lineup as we approach the season. We believe it will position us well to be competitive in the upcoming season.”
Seth Lucas added: “I’m very excited to be working with Korthoff Competition Motors next season in the Mercedes-AMG. Huge thanks to Herb, Walt, and the team for believing in me and giving me the chance to make my GTD debut.”
Koch, who had started the season as the team’s Endurance Cup driver, stepped up to a full-time role at Road America and completed the remainder of the season alongside Grenier.
“I am thrilled to be back with Korthoff Competition Motors for another season,” he said. “It’s been awesome to have been here the last two years in the endurance role and now have the opportunity to pair with Seth for the full season will be a treat.
“I’ve known Maxi from his 24 hour runs with us the last two years and am happy to have his expertise in all the long races now. I can’t thank Herb, Walt, and the team enough for the opportunity.”
