New LMP3 Teams Boost Road America Entry

Thirty-five entries set for IMSA Road Race Showcase at Road America…

New LMP3 entries from JR III Racing and Wulver Racing have boosted the car count for next weekend’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round at Road America.

IMSA released Wednesday a 35-car entry list for the Road Race Showcase on Aug. 6-8 that will feature a seven-car LMP3 class.

While Dawson Racing, which committed to a full-season effort is currently not listed, Ligier JS P320 Nissan entries from JR III and Wulver are set for their respective WeatherTech Championship debuts.

It comes amid the rumored demise of the IMSA Prototype Challenge series at the end of the year.

Mike Skeen and Terry Olson are set to drive the JR III entry, with Augie Pabst and Tonis Kasemets listed in the No. 61 Wulver entry.

Both teams arrive in the WeatherTech Championship from IPC competition.

The DPi class will again see a six-car field with an unchanged lineup, while Era Motorsport has firmed up plans to field its Oreca 07 Gibson for Ryan Dalziel and Dwight Merriman after initially looking to add Road America to its schedule

The Era entry joins the full-season LMP2 entries from PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports, Tower Motorsport by Starworks and Win Autosport.

The pair of Chevrolet Corvette C8.Rs and WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR-19 will again make up the three-car GT Le Mans class, meanwhile.

Alegra Motorsports is again a no-show in GT Daytona after reported sponsorship issues for its Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo although Gilbert/Korthoff Motorsports is set for its second series start with Guy Cosmo and Shane Lewis.

NTE Sport also returns to action for the first time since Watkins Glen with its Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo for Don Yount and JR Hildebrand.

Fifteen GTD cars in total are set to do battle in the two-hour and 40-minute race.
