Porsche Penske Motorsport intends to protest the technical infraction ruling by IMSA that has stripped the team of victory in last weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.
The No. 6 Porsche 963 of Nick Tandy and Mathieu Jaminet was moved to the rear of the GTP finishing order after the car’s skid block was found to not have met the permitted minimum thickness during post-race technical inspection.
In a statement issued late Sunday, the team revealed the front skid block was “less than one millimeter” outside of the legal tolerance, with the rear skid wear “well within” the rules.
“Porsche Penske Motorsport plans to collect all of the data and follow the protest procedures,” the statement read.
Having entered the fifth round of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season at the top of the GTP points standings, Jaminet and Tandy have provisionally dropped to third in the drivers’ championship, 75 points behind Action Express Racing’s Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims.
BMW M Team RLL’s Connor De Phillippi and Nick Yelloly, who were provisionally handed the win, currently sit second in the standings.
