Ex-Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant will make his return to racing for the final two IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races of the season, having been confirmed in PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports’ LMP2 entry for both the Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

The 24-year-old Floridian, who spent the 2023-24 seasons with Williams F1, appeared to be on track to join Genesis Magma Racing’s Hypercar program in the FIA World Endurance Championship but stood down from a season-long European Le Mans Series LMP2 drive with the Korean manufacturer’s trajectory team, IDEC Sport, at the 11th hour.

While having been replaced in this year’s program by Dani Juncadella, Sargeant had remained quiet on any potential future racing endeavors until now.

It was announced on Wednesday he had signed with Oliver Gavin Motorsport Management, which presumably helped lead to this two-race deal with the Bobby Oergel-led PR1/Mathiasen squad, a multi-time prototype title-winning team in the WeatherTech Championship.

FIA Gold-rated Sargeant will share the Oreca 07 Gibson with Silver-rated Benjamin Pedersen and Bronze driver Naveen Rao.

“I’m super excited to be jumping back into a car for the last two LMP2 races in IMSA with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity to drive at two special tracks, Indianapolis and Road Atlanta, and help push for good results with my teammates Ben and Naveen.

“I’m eager to contribute to a successful couple races for the team, and bring my knowledge and experience to everyone involved.”

Oergel added: “Myself and all the crew here at PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports are very excited that Logan is able to join us for the last two endurance events of this season.

“I am sure Logan’s pace will be top-notch and everyone will work well together. We really want to welcome him into our team in a smooth and easy fashion. The opportunity to do some testing ahead of the Indy event should do just that.”

Sargeant is not a newcomer to LMP2 competition, having taken part in two races with the TF Sport-run Racing Team Turkey outfit in the 2021 ELMS season, while also boasting experience in the GT3 ranks of Michelin Le Mans Cup.
