Richard Westbrook has parted ways with Chip Ganassi Racing return to JDC-Miller Motorsports, joining Tijmen van der Helm to form the team’s full season GTP lineup in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Westbrook and Van der Helm will share the cockpit of the No. 5 Porsche 963 for all 11 rounds, with the previously confirmed Phil Hanson joining them for the Michelin Endurance Cup fixtures.
Ben Keating, who joined the team last year to drive the Cadillac DPi-V.R. at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, will return to his role as the fourth driver for the Florida endurance classic in January.
“We were very pleased with our 2023 season with the Porsche 963 GTP,” said team managing partner John Church.
“Everything was new for all the GTP teams last year and we all gained a huge amount of knowledge.
“For 2024, we will have a balance of youth and experience, but more importantly, all our drivers will have extensive prototype experience in IMSA.
“This driver line-up, coupled with the support of Porsche Motorsports North America, will put us in the position to compete for wins in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship.”
Westbrook last raced with JDC-Miller during the 2022 season, forming part of the team’s full season Cadillac DPi crew and taking three podium finishes at Daytona, Sebring and Long Beach.
He spent the 2023 season as part of the Cadillac Hypercar squad in the FIA World Endurance Championship alongside Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn.
Chip Ganassi Racing confirmed in a statement on social media that it has parted ways with Westbrook, meaning the team will need to revamp its WEC lineup for next season.
GM sports car racing program manager Laura Wontrop Klauser said at WEC’s recent season finale at the Bahrain International Circuit to “not expect any surprises” regarding Cadillac’s driver lineup next season.
