Edoardo Piscopo set the pace on the opening day of the 2017 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season at Circuit of The Americas Thursday.
The No. 50 US RaceTronics entry representing Lamborghini Beverly Hills shared by Taylor Proto set a time of 2:06.565, earning a position at the top of both the overall and Pro-Am timesheets.
Series veteran Richard Antinucci was the quickest driver in the Pro category, turning a lap of 2:07.842 in his No. 16 Change Racing Lamborgini Huracán Super Trofeo entry, representing Lamborghini Carolinas.
Patrice Brisebois, who earned his first career win at COTA last year, continues to carry speed into the 2017 season. The Canadian driver put the No. 18 DAC Motorsports entry he shares with Emmanuel Anassis atop the Am charts with a time of 2:09.060.
There was a second Proto driving a class-leading car today, as Mark Proto (Taylor’s father) set the fastest time in Lamborghini Cup. During the second practice session, the elder Proto turned a lap of 2:10.448 putting the No. 88 US RaceTronics entry he shares with Parris Mullins into the class lead for Lamborghini La Jolla.
The No. 7 DXDT Racing entry of 18-year-old Austin Versteeg representing Lamborghini Dallas was also quick. The young driver set the second quickest time of the day in Practice 1 and continued to be quick in Practice 2, running in the overall top three, second in the Pro-Am category.
A double qualifying session for both Races 1 and 2 will start at 8:00 a.m. CT Friday, May 5, followed by Race 1 at 5:30 p.m. Race 2 begins Saturday at 9:45 a.m. CT.
