Luca Engstler has been added to Lamborghini’s roster of factory drivers ahead of a campaign in DTM with GRT Grasser Racing Team.

As confirmed by the Austrian squad on Monday, Engstler will form part of a two-car effort for the Austrian squad alongside Jordan Pepper.

Engstler graduates to full factory status after previously forming part of Lamborghini’s Young Driver roster last year.

During his time in that program, the German took a pair of class victories in DTM driving for Grasser. He also secured the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup title in the Gold Cup class, although the majority of that campaign was completed in Audi machinery.

Furthermore, he made his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut at the Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and was due to compete in the FIA GT World Cup at Macau before he was ruled out after a crash in qualifying.

“It is a lifetime dream coming true, racing for Lamborghini all around the world,” said Engstler.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity and the support I got through the young driver program from Squadra Corse.

“It is the best motivation for young drivers, that you can step up and grow within the Lamborghini family.

“I also would like to thank all my partners, but specially the whole GRT family for their trust and constant support, without them I would never be, where I am right now.”

Engstler joins a factory roster that currently also features Pepper, Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli, Christian Engelhart, Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat, Marco Mapelli, Sandy Mitchell, Edoardo Mortara, Franck Perera, Leonardo Pulcini and Loris Spinelli.

He effectively fills a vacancy left by Matteo Cairoli, who confirmed his departure from the brand after a single season as a factory driver last month.

“I am very pleased to announce Luca Engstler as a Lamborghini Factory Driver,” said Maurizio Leschiutta, Lamborghini Head of Motorsport.

“Through our Young Driver Program, we have analysed Luca’s performances, which have demonstrated outstanding technical and professional progression and he fully deserves this promotion.

“We have chosen to field Luca in the DTM with the TGI Lamborghini Team by GRT 2025, a top-level championship in the GT racing scene, which will allow him to once again compete against the best specialists in the category and further enhance his technical skills.”
