Filipe Albuquerque will stand in for Nelson Piquet Jr. at the upcoming European Le Mans Series round at Motorland Aragon.
Albuquerque will join Daniel Schneider and Andy Meyrick aboard the No. 21 Oreca 07 Gibson, which is entered into the LMP2 Pro-Am category.
The Portuguese racer replaces full-season driver Piquet Jr., who is unable to compete in the four-hour night race due to clashing commitments elsewhere.
“I’m really excited about this surprise opportunity to get back to the ELMS” said Albuquerque.
“It makes sense. I’m available, it’s good racing, with a good team and good teammates.
“Aragon is a place I know very well, so I hope I can contribute with some knowledge, helping my teammate Daniel to learn. I’m looking forward to it.”
Albuquerque scored 11 ELMS wins since debuting in the series in 2014, last racing in 2020 when he won three races en route to the LMP2 title.
“It’s great to have Filipe back in the ELMS paddock” said United Autosports managing director Max Gregory.
“He’s such an experienced driver. We’ve worked together for years and celebrated great success along the way.
“I’m confident we’ll have a good weekend with Filipe, Daniel and Andy in our pursuit for the Pro/Am podium.”
Albuquerque is the second driver to join the grid for the Aragon event as a substitute driver after Bent Viscaal, who will race with Algarve Pro Racing in place of IMSA-tied Jack Hawksworth.
