Akkodis ASP Team has confirmed plans for a two-car Lexus effort in the LMGT3 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2024.

The French squad will field a pair of Lexus RC F GT3s in the new category, subject to approval from WEC’s Selection Committee.

ASP has been heavily linked to the Japanese manufacturer for months as the highly accomplished French team seeks a way to join the WEC grid for the first year of the LMGT3 ruleset.

The Jerome Policand-led squad is set to test with Lexus both today and Wednesday as part of a Goodyear tire test at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal, where Jack Hawksworth and Jose Maria Lopez are expected to drive.

The switch to Lexus machinery will mark the fifth manufacturer ASP has worked with in its 25-year history. It started out with Renault and Porsche, before switching to Ferrari.

In 2016, it embarked on a highly successful alliance with Mercedes-AMG that propelled it to the upper echelons of international GT3 racing.

It won multiple Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS titles, including back-to-back Endurance Cup crowns in 2022 and 2023. It also took Mercedes’ first CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa win in nine years with Jules Gounon, Daniel Juncadella and Raffaele Marciello.

Should its LMGT3 entry be accepted, it will likely mean a temporary hiatus from GTWC Europe competition for the team.

Policand previously indicated to Sportscar365 that ASP will not run a combined effort for at least the first year of its potential WEC program, should it achieve its goal of joining the world championship in 2024.

Drivers for the LMGT3 effort will be announced at a later date.
