Jack Hawksworth has been called up to replace Jose Maria Lopez aboard the No. 87 Akkodis ASP Team Lexus RC F GT3 for next week’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The reigning IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD Pro champion will make his debut in the French endurance classic, driving alongside Takeshi Kimura and Esteban Masson.
Hawksworth steps into the seat vacated by Jose Maria Lopez after the Argentinean was called up to race the No. 7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid after Mike Conway was injured in a cycling accident on Thursday.
It will mark the first time Hawksworth has competed at Le Mans as part of a career that has included stints in the WeatherTech Championship, IndyCar, the European Le Mans Series and Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup.
The 33-year-old was due to compete with Hattori Motorsports in this weekend’s four-hour IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge round, sharing the No. 50 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO with Yuichi Nakayama.
Instead, that seat will be filled by Parker Thompson, who returns to the series for the first time since a one-off appearance on Canadian Tire Motorsport Park last July.
