Reigning Hankook 24H Dubai winner Axcil Jefferies has landed a last-minute ride in the No. 7 MS7 by WRT Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo following a positive COVID-19 test for one of its drivers.
Jefferies will join Thomas Neubauer, Dries Vanthoor, Christopher Mies and Mohammed Saud Fahad Al Saud in the WRT-run Audi after Michael Vergers tested positive upon arriving in Dubai.
The Dubai-based Zimbabwean claimed top overall honors in the 2021 race in GPX Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 R, which is not present this year.
It is one of several changes to driver lineups due to positive COVID-19 tests.
Among others ruled out of the race include Mikhail Aleshin, Sam De Haan and Stephane Lemeret, with both De Haan and Lemeret having been replaced at Duel Racing with TF Sport and AC Motorsport, respectively.
The HRT-run CapitalRT -YADRO squad, meanwhile, has elected to run as a three-driver lineup in its Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo with Victor Shaytar, Denis Remenyako and Sergey Stolyarov.
Official track action gets underway this afternoon with a 90-minute Free Practice session.
