Former Porsche and Lamborghini factory driver Matteo Cairoli will make his DTM debut this season, taking Jack Aitken’s place at the wheel of a Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo run by Emil Frey Racing.
The Italian was runner-up in a Winward-entered Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup last year but, upon the publication of this season’s entry list last week, it was revealed that Cairoli was part of Emil Frey’s lineup alongside Konsta Lappalainen.
It has now been confirmed that Cairoli will also contest the DTM for the first time as part of the squad’s two-car entry, with Thierry Vermeulen continuing in the second Ferrari for a fourth season.
The Belgian was 10th in last year’s standings, while two-time race winner Aitken was eighth.
“I am very grateful to Emil Frey Racing and proud of this opportunity,” said Cairoli. “I believe that together we can form a strong combination.
“As I am new to the DTM and to the car, my main focus is on learning as quickly as possible – but at the same time, I also want to pursue ambitious goals.
“I can’t wait to get started, enjoy every moment, and show what we are capable of on the racetrack!”
Team boss Lorenz Frey-Hilti added: “The 2026 season brings many changes. A new Evo package from Ferrari, a new tire from Pirelli for the DTM, and a new driver for our team.
“We are also very pleased about our new partnership with BWT, who will be the main sponsor of car No. 14 in the DTM and GTWC Europe Sprint.
“A big thank you goes to Jack Aitken, who has done an outstanding job for us over the past five years, and we wish him all the best for his season.
“Now we are turning our attention to the new season and are delighted to welcome Matteo Cairoli to the team. With his vast experience and speed, he will be a valuable addition.”
