HARO Sports & Entertainment, the promoter for this weekend’s SUPER GT race at Sepang, has revealed plans for a GT500 wildcard entry for next year’s event.

HARO managing partner Fahrizal Hasan made the surprise revelation on Saturday appearing alongside GTA chairman Masaaki Bandoh in a special press conference held ahead of the third round of the season at the Malaysian venue.

Hasan described the plans, which would be a first in the history of SUPER GT, as a “work in progress” with no manufacturer currently attached to the project, although he expressed a desire for one of the drivers to be Malaysian.

He added that such a project was important to “keep up the momentum, to create something bigger” that would enable the event to draw an even larger crowd in 2026.

Next year’s Sepang race will be the second held under the current three-year agreement to bring SUPER GT back to the circuit, which last hosted the series back in 2013.

This weekend’s event features two wildcard entries on the grid in the GT300 class, with Earl Bamber Motorsport operating a Porsche 911 GT3 R and an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo that each have a local driver as part of their respective driver lineups.

Adrian D’Silva is driving the No. 611 Porsche together with Dorian Boccolacci, while Jazeman Jaafar pilots the Aston Martin together with Kerong Li.

Friday’s qualifying day attracted 28,524 fans, according to Hasan, a portion of which were present to attend the ‘Nihon Matsuri’, a festival celebrating Japanese culture, with approximately 20 percent of the figure coming from outside of Malaysia.

Hasan previously set a target of 80,000 fans over two days for the event.
