Aston Martin factory driver Marco Sorensen will partner Tomonobu Fujii aboard D’station Racing’s Vantage GT3 Evo for the 2024 SUPER GT season.
Sorensen will embark on his first campaign in the Japanese series with the same team with which he will participate in the FIA World Endurance Championship this year.
D’station, which has competed in the WEC since 2021 and will continue to do so in 2024, announced its plans to return to the SUPER GT grid back in October after securing a entry under its own banner for the first time.
Fujii revealed to Sportscar365 last month that Aston Martin had agreed to lend the team one of its works drivers for what he called a “quasi-factory” GT300 effort that will see the updated Vantage GT3 Evo race make its Japanese debut.
Dunlop will supply tires for the team, while the car number remains yet to be revealed.
“For me, to compete in SUPER GT is a dream come true,” said Sorensen. “I love Japan. I have competed in races all over the world, but I cannot wait for this new challenge in Japan.
“The new GT3 has made a definitive step in performance. I am looking forward to racing with Fujii-san who is experienced in SUPER GT and the D’station Racing staff to get the results they deserve.
“I am sure we can do great things together. Race fans in Japan always give me a warm welcome as well so I am looking forward to the first race in Okayama.”
Aston Martin head of endurance motorsport Adam Carter added: “D’station Racing has achieved more domestic success in Japan with Aston Martin than any other team, so we are proud to see them choose the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 to make their return to the GT300 class of Japan’s most prestigious GT series.
“The new Vantage GT car is a clear step forward in performance, and with a strong driver line-up such as the team will have in Tomonobu-san and Marco, we’re excited to see what can be achieved in such a significant racing series.”
Sorensen faces two clashes between his WEC and SUPER GT programs, as both Round 5 at Suzuka and the Motegi season finale of the latter series fall on the same weekend as the WEC rounds at the Circuit of the Americas and Bahrain respectively.
It remains unclear which series will take priority for the Danish driver, with a decision to be made later in the year.
Another Aston Martin factory driver, Nicki Thiim, was scheduled to compete in SUPER GT with D’station back in 2020 until the COVID-19 pandemic scuppered those plans.
