Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart will race under appeal at Zandvoort after protesting a penalty served to Grasser Racing Team after qualifying.

The No. 63 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo was initially disqualified from Qualifying 2, which set the grid for Sunday afternoon’s Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe race, after its data logger was found not to have been working.

The Austrian team has since appealed the penalty and will start the race from fifth position as originally planned, with the appeal set to be heard by the RACB after the weekend.

It’s a similar incident to the one concerning R-Motorsport in last year’s Endurance Cup round at Silverstone, when it lost pole position due to an SD card infringement.

The Anglo-Swiss squad appealed the ruling, went on to provisionally win the race and won the appeal in the court several weeks later.

Grasser’s Qualifying 1 performance is unaffected, with the data logger understood to have recorded information during this morning’s first 20-minute qualifying session.

It therefore appears to have broken during the 10-minute gap between sessions, during which interference on the unit is not permitted.

Bortolotti will start this afternoon’s first race from second on the grid, unaffected by the penalty and appeal situation, while Engelhart holds onto his fifth-place start for Sunday’s race.

Race 1 will get underway at 2:35 p.m. local time (8:35 a.m. EDT).
