GT2 machinery will return to GT America powered by AWS action in this weekend’s SRO3 class title-deciding pair of races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
A total of 20 cars are entered for the season-ending rounds at The Brickyard, including two GT2 entries, marking the category’s return for the first time since the fourth event of the year at Circuit of The Americas in May.
Lone Star Racing team owner/driver Dan Knox has entered his Mercedes-AMG GT2, while CJ Moses is slated to have his GMG Racing-prepared Audi R8 LMS GT2 for the two 40-minute races.
While Rotek Racing’s Isaac Sherman has already clinched the GT4 class title, three drivers head into Indianapolis with a mathematical chance of the SRO3 category championship, led by Jason Daskalos.
The CRP Racing driver, who retook the points lead from Johnny O’Connell last time out at Barber Motorsports Park, holds an 18-point advantage over O’Connell, with Turner Motorsport’s Justin Rothberg third in the standings, 33 points behind Daskalos.
Daskalos can walk away as champion, no matter where his competition finishes, as long as he records at least second and third-place finishes this weekend in his No. 27 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
O’Connell, meanwhile, would need to win both races and have Daskalos finish off the podium in at least one race, in order to take the title for his SKI Autosports squad, with Rothberg needing both of his title rivals to hit significant trouble to have any chance of the championship.
Two additional Audi R8 LMS GT3s will be on the grid this weekend, with James Sofronas back in action in his GMG entry and Scott Dollahite also present in the top class of competition.
GT4 sees Alan Teo join the class in the No. 085 Orlando Motorsports Services McLaren Artura GT4, as part of an expanded seven-car category.
Track action kicks off on Thursday with a pair of practice sessions, followed by qualifying and Race 1 on Friday (1 p.m. EDT) and Race 2 on Sunday (8:35 a.m. EDT). Both races will be streamed live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
