RS1’s John Capestro-Dubets and Eric Filgueiras have swept the weekend in Pirelli GT4 America competition, following victory in Sunday’s race at Virginia International Raceway.
Capestro-Dubets took his No. 28 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport to a 2.049-second win over the No. 97 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4 of Kevin Boehm, who took over the position after a late-race slide by Colin Garrett’s No. 51 AutoTechnic Racing BMW.
It came after the RS1 Porsche beat Garrett out of the pits while under the race’s first full course yellow just prior to halfway in the 60-minute contest.
Garrett’s co-driver Zac Anderson took the lead on the third lap and led until the yellow, for a two-car incident involving Chris Walsh and Eric Powell.
The second yellow, for an accident triggered by solo driver Jake Cowden that collected the No. 68 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO of John Geesbreght, set up a six-minute shootout to the finish.
Matt Bell went from third to first to claim Pro-Am class honors in the No. 43 P1 Groupe Mercedes-AMG GT4 he shared with Alex Voegel.
Bell got around the No. 53 AutoTechnic Racing BMW of Mark Brummond then set his sights on Curt Curt Swearingin’s No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche on the final lap to take the class win, finishing third overall.
The No. 099 Rotek Racing Porsche of Robb Holand and Jaden Lander, meanwhile, picked up Am class honors.
It came after the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW of James Clay was forced to make an unscheduled stop for an issue with the left-rear tire after contact while under the second yellow.
