Jake Cowden is set to take part in this weekend’s pair of Pirelli GT4 America races as a solo driver with JMF Motorsports following an illness for regular co-driver Demi Chalkias that has ruled her out of the two 60-minute races.
The Canadian squad has received dispensation to run its Silver class Mercedes-AMG GT4 with just one driver by race stewards on Saturday morning.
Cowden must take part in both qualifying sessions, while his mandatory pit stop time must be at least 73 seconds, compared to 70 seconds for the rest of the series competitors.
Additionally, the Canadian driver must exit the car and step to the cold side of the pit wall before returning to the car to drive the following stint during the mid-race pit stop.
The move comes after JMF initially requested that its Toyota GR Cup North America driver Braydon Arthur replace Chalkias, which was denied by the stewards as Arthur, who had previous testing experience in the team’s Mercedes-AMG, does not hold a FIA driver rating.
