Quinlan, Liefooghe Win Race 2 Amid Late-Race Confusion

Sean Quinlan and Gregory Liefooghe claimed overall victory in Sunday’s Pirelli GT4 America race at Road America following a late-race restart and confusion amid a wave-by due to an Am class McLaren 570S GT4.

Quinlan took his No. 119 Stephen Cameron Racing BMW M4 GT4 to a 0.805-second win over the No. 52 Auto Technic Racing BMW of Tom Capizzi in the 60-minute scheduled race that was impacted by two safety car periods.

An accident by the No. 7 Nolasport with OGH Porsche of Sean Gibbons brought out a full-course caution and delayed the opening of the pit window with 35 minutes to go.

The pit window closed while under the race’s second yellow, which was for an accident by the No. 98 Random Vandals Racing BMW of Al Carter at The Kink.

It set up a seven-minute shootout to the finish, which oddly was led to the green by the No. 111 Motorsport USA McLaren of father-and-son Todd and Ty Clarke, following race control’s decision to wave by the entire field on the previous lap.

Todd Clarke took the restart in the lead and was overtaken by Quinlan with two laps to go. Clarke, however, still managed to finish sixth overall to take the Am class win.

Bryan Putt and Kenton Koch completed the Pro-Am class podium in third in their BSport Aston Martin Vantage GT4, which was locked into an intense four-way battle for the lead early on involving Liefooghe, Bill Auberlen and John Capestro-Dubets.

Walker and Auberlen finished fourth, with Tim Pappas and Jeroen Bleekemolen completing the top-five overall in their Black Swan Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

Silver class honors went to the No. 28 ST Racing pairing of Harry Gottsacker and Tyler Maxston in their BMW.
