John Capestro-Dubets and Eric Filgueiras scored a controlling win in Saturday’s Pirelli GT4 America race at Virginia International Raceway, following a caution-free 60-minute contest.

Filgueiras drove the No. 28 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport to a 3.153-second win over the second-placed No. 51 AutoTechnic Racing BMW M4 GT4 of Zac Anderson.

Having started on pole, Capestro-Dubets came under pressure from the No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Jake Cowden, who ran as a solo driver this weekend.

As a result, Cowden’s mandatory stop was three seconds longer than the competition and dropped the young Canadian to fourth following the pit sequence.

Kenton Koch appeared to be en route to a third place finish but slowed on track with less than three minutes to go after running out of fuel.

The No. 68 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO of John Giesbrecht and Tyler Gonzalez crossed the line in third but was assessed a 8.67-second post-race penalty for having too short of a pit stop.

It promoted Cowden to the final podium position.

Kay van Berlo made a late-race pass on RENNtech Motorsports’ Matheus Leist to take Pro-Am class honors on the final lap in his No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche.

Van Berlo shared top class honors with Curt Swearingin.

The No. 5 Flying Lizard Motorsports Nissan Z NISMO GT4 of Rodrigo Baptista and Damir Hot completed the class podium in third.

BimmerWorld’s Charlie Postins and James Clay picked up Am class honors with a 15th place finish in their No. 36 BMW, meanwhile.

The second and final GT4 America race of the weekend gets underway Sunday at 10:55 a.m. EDT with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
