Corey Lewis and Tyler Gonzalez combined to claim victory in the first Pirelli GT4 America race of the weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which saw the Pro-Am class title wrapped up with one race still to go.
Lewis took his No. 68 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO to a 5.172-second win over the No. 97 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4 of Kenton Koch, who passed the Silver class championship leader Eric Filgueiras in the closing minutes to provisionally close the gap to just two points.
Filgueiras finished third overall in the No. 28 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport that was started by John Capestro-Dubets.
Lewis drove to the overall lead of the race in the final 15 minutes of the 60-minute contest, having passed the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche of Curt Swearingin, who inherited the top spot following his co-driver Kay van Berlo’s race-leading opening stint.
Swearingin came home sixth overall and second in Pro-Am, which was enough for he and van Berlo to clinch the class championship ahead of Sunday’s season finale.
The No. 07 Precision Racing LA Toyota of Ryan Eversley passed Swearingin with less than two laps to go to claim the win for he and new co-driver Terry Borcheller.
Indy NXT driver Myles Rowe took the No. 098 Rotek Racing Porsche to a Pro-Am podium finish alongside fellow series debutant, and newly clinched GT America powered by AWS GT4 champion Isaac Sherman.
Teammates Jaden Lander and Robb Holland, meanwhile, took over the Am class points lead with victory in their No. 099 Rotek Porsche, which finished 13th overall in the race.
Lander and Holland hold a narrow points lead over Random Vandals’ Kris Wilson with one race to go.
The season-ending race gets underway Sunday at 10:35 a.m. EDT with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
