Westin Workman and Tyler Gonzalez claimed victory in the second Pirelli GT4 America race at Sonoma Raceway, marking a sweep of the weekend for the RAFA Racing Team duo in their Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2.
Workman, in his first weekend of GT4 America competition, finished ahead of Sam Craven in the Pro-Am class-winning No. 94 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4 EVO, in a race that ended under full-course yellow.
Kenton Koch started from pole and held a narrow one-second lead over Gonzalez until being one of the first to make the mandatory pit stop and driver change at the 28-minute mark.
Craven, the defending Pro-Am class champion, who took over from Koch, held his own for more than ten minutes until Workman, a Toyota development driver, made a pass for the overall lead with 15 minutes to go.
A heavy crash by the No. 38 BimmerWorld BMW of Michael Petramalo brought out the safety car with ten minutes to go, with the race not restarting due to barrier damage.
Petramalo, however, climbed from the car under his own power.
The No. 51 Auto Technic Racing BMW of Kevin Boehm and Francis Selldorff finished third overall and second in Silver, which saw Boehm hold off the No. 98 Random Vandals entry of Josh Green, who along with Bruno Columbo, completed the class podium.
Tony Gaples brought the Blackdog Racing McLaren Artura GT4 home in fifth overall, second in Pro-Am after the car ran as high as third in the hands of co-driver Michael Cooper.
Am class honors went to Judson Holt and Denny Stripling, who like the overall winning duo, swept the weekend in class aboard their No. 188 Random Vandals BMW.
The No. 19 Auto Technic BMW of Roland Krainz and Stevan McAleer finished third in Pro-Am and seventh overall.
Several cars dropped out of contention early on, including the No. 39 Dome Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Marc Miller, who pitted with left-front damage.
James Clay, in the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW, also saw contact with the wall in the opening laps, while the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport had a right-front tire puncture on Yves Baltas’ out-lap following their driver change.
Both the Am class BimmerWorld entry and the Dome Mercedes-AMG finished five and six laps down, respectively, while Baltas was classified 24th overall, one lap behind.
Contact between GT4 America rookie Jonathan Perichon and the No. 47 Nolasport Porsche of Matt Travis, while battling inside the overall top-ten, resulted in a drive-through for the Stephen Cameron Racing BMW, which then incurred an additional penalty for a pit lane speeding infraction.
It resulted in a 21st overall finish for the No. 90 BMW.
