Former Aussie Racing Cars champion and Toyota GR Cup Australia graduate Josh Anderson will take the next step in his motorsport career by contesting the inaugural Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia season with multi-car squad RM Race Cars.

Anderson has followed an unorthodox route in his racing career, starting in simulation racing, followed by Aussie Racing Cars and GR Cup.

Anderson won the 2022 Aussies title before switching to GR Cup in 2024, where he won a race in the final round of the 2025 title at Sandown.

Having sampled the Ford Mustang Dark Horse R at the category launch day last month, Anderson is keen to start his campaign at Phillip Island and joins the vastly experienced RM Race Cars squad led by Ryan McLeod.

“It’s a really cool series, and while it’s come together very late I can’t wait to go racing,” said Anderson.

“It’s certainly a natural progression from GR Cup to join Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia.

“I got to do around ten laps on the Launch Day and the car was really fun to drive. While it’s heavily road car based, it still feels like a proper race car. I’m certainly hoping to gel with the car and have a great season this year.

“There’s a few key differences to what I’ve raced in the past. Starting with the tyres, the slick Michelin rubber makes a huge difference compared to the tyres I previously raced on in GR Cup.

“It has a lot of grunt, it does have ABS like the GR86, but it has rev matching which is a really cool feature.

“Just being involved in a category like this makes me feel really lucky. Ford is putting all its weight behind it, investing in both Mustang Cup and many other areas of the sport. It’s a really cool thing to be involved in for the first year.”

RM Race Cars is set to field five entries, with Anderson joining previously announced drivers Keith Kassulke and Josh Trappett.

Anderson will compete in the Dark Horse Junior Class where a Ford Racing Technical Center experience is up for grabs for the winner.

The series kicks off at Phillip Island as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries on March 27-29.
