Wilson, Hindman Claim GT4 SprintX Poles at VIR

Kris Wilson and Trent Hindman have taken poles for the pair of Pirelli GT4 America SprintX/East races at Virginia International Raceway.

Wilson, in the No. 16 Auto Technic Racing BMW M4 GT4, completed a best lap of 1:54.123 to start from the top spot in this afternoon’s 60-minute two-driver race.

It came after a heavy crash for the No. 44 Kelly-Moss/Photon Motorsports Audi R8 LMS GT4 of Eric Palmer, which ended up on its side and resulted in a session-ending red flag.

The No. 34 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Matt Fassnacht will start second overall and first in the GT4 East Am class, ahead of Vesko Kozarov in the No. 91 Rearden Racing Audi GT4.

GT4 SprintX Pro-Am class pole honors went to the No. 47 nolasport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport of Matt Travis, who qualified fourth overall, ahead of the Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche of Michael Dinan in fifth.

Hindman Rockets to Race 2 Pole

Park Place Motorsports driver Hindman, meanwhile, will start Race 2 from the pole, thanks to a session-best 1:53.409 in the No. 77 VOLT Lighting-sponsored Porsche.

He edged out the No. 47 nolasport Porsche of Jason Hart by just 0.028 seconds.

Hindman scored GT4 East Pro-Am pole, with Hart securing top qualifying honors in GT4 SprintX Pro-Am and Christian Szymczak qualifying third overall and best of the GT4 East Am competitors. 

Race 1 for GT4 SprintX/East gets underway at 4:50 p.m. EDT, with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube page. 

The second race of the weekend is set for a 4:10 p.m. start on Sunday.
