The McLaren 570S GT4 has received a mid-event Balance of Performance adjustment by SRO Motorsports Group ahead of Pirelli GT4 America qualifying and race action at Virginia International Raceway.

Issued in a technical bulletin on Friday evening, the mid-engined sports car has been given an 80 kg reduction in minimum weight, moving from 150 kg to 70 kg of ballast, although offset by the use of the 2019 ECU engine map, which is understood to reduce the car’s top-end speed.

The McLaren GT4’s ride height has also been adjusted, with a 10 mm reduction in the front and 5 mm to the rear.

While communicated to teams on Friday, the changes essentially took effect for qualifying this morning due to the washout of Practice 2 that saw only a few cars, and no McLaren GT4s, take to the wet track.

Michael Cooper was the best-placed McLaren GT4 in qualifying for GT4 Sprint on Saturday morning, putting the No. 10 Blackdog Speed Shop entry sixth on the overall grid for this afternoon’s Race 1.

Of note, both the Blackdog and KPR McLarens lost their times in Friday’s opening practice for being underweight, in what’s believed to have been a pre-empted move by the teams.
