Compass Racing has announced that it will contest this year’s Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS season with a single Acura NSX GT3 Evo.

The California-based team, which ran McLaren GT3 machinery in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship last year, is set for its debut in SRO America’s top-level series.

Rodrigo Sales and reigning IMSA GT Daytona class champion Matt McMurry, who is also a Honda Performance Development Junior, will share driving duties.

McMurry won last year’s IMSA GTD title driving a Meyer Shank Racing Acura with Mario Farnbacher, while the 23-year-old is new to the Compass organization.

Sales drove for Compass in 2018 when the Mexican-American racer finished second in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR standings alongside Kuno Wittmer.

The No. 77 Compass Acura will sport a livery showing the artwork of visually-impaired artist Jeff Hanson, who passed away in December at the age of 27 from neurofibromatosis.

Compass has set up a fundraising campaign through the Race Day Foundation with the goal of contributing towards Hanson’s goal of raising $10 million for charity by 2023.

“We’re truly thrilled to introduce the No. 77 Acura NSX GT3 Evo as the newest platform Compass Racing competes with,” said team owner Jill Beck.

“We’re equally excited to enter SRO’s GT World Challenge for the first time, with two tremendous drivers. It’s an exciting new chapter for our team, and we are so pleased to once again be working with the wonderful people at HPD.”

The Compass Racing Acura was named on the recently-published provisional 14-car entry list for the GTWC America season-opener at Sonoma Raceway next month.
