TR3 Racing CEO Gregory Romaneilli said he’s “very excited” for their new venture with Lamborghini after making the switch from Ferrari during the off-season.

The Florida-based team begins its new relationship in this weekend’s Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS season-opener at Sonoma Raceway with a single Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo for Ziad Ghandour and factory driver Giacomo Altoe.

It comes after numerous seasons racing Ferrari machinery, both in SRO America competition and Ferrari Challenge North America.

Sportscar365 understands TR3 will also field multiple entries in Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, which kicks off at Circuit of The Americas in May.

“We are very exited to start this new venture with Lamborghini, Giorgio Sanna and Chris Ward really have made it a flawless transition from what we were running last year,” said Romanelli.

“We worked hard in the off-season to put together this program.

“The car is in is built with such a high standard and the support behind it is like nothing else.

“We look forward to Sonoma and to a great season together with Ziad and Giacomo, being Giacomo‘s first year racing in United States and Ziad’s first full season in World Challenge.”

Ferrari Challenge veteran Ghandour, a native of Lebanon, has made selected GTWC America starts in recent years, both with TR3 and Racers Edge Motorsports.

“The Lamborghini is really exciting to drive, and we have a lot of potential working with this new car,” he said.

“It will be a lot of good teams and drivers this year. I am eager to go racing with this package along with Giacomo as my co-driver.”

Altoe, who won the International GT Open title in 2019, added that he’s “really motivated” to be racing in the U.S. for the first time.

Another change for the team is the absence of reigning Pro-Am class champion Martin Fuentes, who has driven for the team under the Squadra Corse Garage Italia team banner for the last three seasons.

Fuentes teamed with Rodrigo Baptista for five class wins last year, including overall honors at Sonoma Raceway and a sweep of the second Circuit of The Americas weekend.

Team Links Up With Lamborghini Miami

TR3’s move to the Lamborghini platform has been bolstered by a partnership with Lamborghini Miami, one of the oldest Lamborghini dealer in the U.S.

“I believe that Lamborghini is the most dynamic luxury brand on the market today, with innovative technology and a cutting edge esthetic,” said Brett David, CEO of Prestige Imports and Lamborghini Miami.

“Joining the TR3 Racing, challenges the senses and excites the heart and with my personal relationship with family behind TR3, I have the full confidence that this is the winning team to take us to the finish line and to the checkered flag, we are ready.”
