Drew Staveley’s late flyer put him at the top of the time sheets in the tightly-bunched first Pirelli World Challenge GTS practice session of the weekend at Portland International Raceway.

Staveley, driving No. 12 Ginetta G55 for Ian Lacy Racing, edged the second-place No. 11 Blackdog Speed Shop Chevrolet Camaro GT4 of Michael Cooper who vaulted to second overall and first in the Pro-Am class in the final minutes.

The No. 51 Panoz Avezzano GT4 of Preston Calvert was third 0.070 seconds back, while the No. 88 BMW M4 GT4 of Gregory Liefooghe and Henry Schmitt was just a further 0.002 seconds back in fourth.

Three of the top four spots all to Am class competitors with the No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4 of Alex Welch and James Sofronas in fifth overall and second in Pro-Am.

Harry Gottsacker was sixth overall and second in the Pro-Am class in the No. 69 SIN R1 for Racers Edge Motorsports, while Lawson Aschenbach posted the seventh fastest time in the No. 1 Camaro.

The top 12 were separated by less than a half a second. The session ran trouble free for the entire 60 minutes.

Practice 2 for the GTS field is scheduled for 5:10 P.M PT this evening.
