Audi Sport Asia has announced that its official drivers Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai will defend their GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS Silver Cup title this year.

The Chinese pair will once again share a Phantom Global Racing-run Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II for the six-round campaign that begins next weekend at Sepang in Malaysia, as they aim not only for back-to-back class titles but also for overall honors.

On top of their GTWC Asia exploits, Cheng and Yu also starred in qualifying for the Suzuka 1000km as, together with fellow Silver-rated Chinese driver Deng Yi, they secured third on the grid for the revived Intercontinental GT Challenge race.

“Since our launch in 2012, Audi Sport customer racing Asia has been a driving force for the development of motorsport in the region together with our customers and teams,” said Audi Sport customer racing Asia boss Alexander Blackie.

“This mission continues as we enter our 15th season.

“Audi Sport Asia Drivers Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai will again lend their invaluable experience and talent to our customers’ campaigns, while also flying the flag for Chinese motorsport in the prestigious GT World Challenge Asia.

“In tandem with the pro driver program, our industry-leading onsite technical and spare parts customer support will be provided at all major races and series across the region.”

Audi Sport Asia’s statement added that a second full-season GTWC Asia entry involving Phantom Global will be announced soon.

In addition, the organization will continue to support its customers across the region racing not only with the R8 LMS GT3, but also with GT4 and TCR machinery.

Markus Winkelhock, who was named last year as part of a three-driver pool together with Cheng and Yu, was not mentioned in the statement.
