Comet Racing will enter a Ferrari 296 GT3 in the Japan Cup portion of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS in 2024.
Yorikatsu Tsujiko and Yusuke Yamasaki will aim to defend the Japan Cup GT3 Am title they won this year driving a 488 GT3 Evo in the newly separated four-round series, which kicks off with a standalone event at Sportsland Sugo on June 7-9.
The pair become the first confirmed GT3 participants in the Japan Cup, which will also feature on the support bill of the Fuji, Suzuka and Okayama weekends of the main GT World Challenge Asia series.
“The aim is simple: to defend the Am championship,” said Tsujiko. “The team already has experience of the 296 from last year so I’m hopeful that Yamasaki-san and I can adapt quickly and be ready to score class wins from the start.”
Also confirmed for a Japan Cup campaign is Naohiko Otsuka, who won this year’s GT4 Am class title alongside Sho Kobayashi.
Otsuka will again drive a Porsche Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport driving for Checkshop Caymania Racing, with his teammate to be announced later.
GT4 cars are no longer eligible for the main GT World Challenge Asia series after sharing a grid with GT3 machinery for the majority of races in 2023.
However, the GT4 class of the Japan Cup will be opened up to all Asian drivers next season, having been limited to drivers holding a Japanese licence previously.
