SRO Motorsports Group and WC Vision, producers of Pirelli World Challenge, has announced the expansion of the TCR class for 2019 with the “TCR Cup” division designed for amateur and gentleman drivers.

While the TCR class will continued to field Gold, Silver and Bronze-rated drivers next year, TCR Cup will be available to Bronze and Bronze* drivers only.

In addition, TCR will continue with TCR International Balance of Performance (BoP) rulings, but the TCR Cup BoP regulations will be controlled by the PWC competition department.

The new class will include technical guidelines that will have the Audi and Volkswagen DSG gearbox-based cars as the BoP baseline of the class. Other models will be approved on a case-by-case basis by series technical staff.

“We have had a great initial season with the TCR competition this year,” said Touring Car class director Jim Jordan.

“The TCR cars proved to be fun to drive in 2018 and we wanted to expand this type of vehicle to other racers with less experience. The TCR Cup class will open up a new option for Touring Car competitors with interest in the TCR vehicles.”

TCR Cup cars will have specific technical rules as opposed to the race cars in TCR, with the parameters to be announced in the near future.

As previously announced, TCR machinery will also be eligible for October’s California 8 Hours at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
