Hot on the heels of its historic overall victory at Petit Le Mans, Porsche has confirmed that its factory GT Le Mans class program will continue in the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Two revised Porsche 911 RSRs will again be campaigned by the CORE autosport-run Porsche North America squad for the third consecutive season. Drivers have yet to be announced.

“The USA is the most important sports car market for Porsche,” said Porsche Head of Motorsport Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser.

“We take on the challenge of defending the titles we won this year in the 2016 season and continue to trust the excellent work done by our race team Porsche North America.”

The German manufacturer has yet to confirm the status of its factory GTE-Pro effort in the FIA World Endurance Championship for next year, with Walliser telling Sportscar365 that a decision has yet to be made.

It’s understood Porsche Team Manthey could scale back to a single-car effort in the WEC as its takes on an expanded role running the new Porsche 911 GT3-R in key European endurance races.
